Hatemail has an intriguing, non-linear story structure and utilises multiple locations, six cast (including a child performer), vehicles, period 1980s props & costume, weapons, stunts, digital VFX and wildlife to tell its dark and weaving tale. It certainly isn't your straight-forward 'two guys in a room' short film.
Produced by Mark Murrell and his Production Company 76 Ltd in conjunction with Frazer's own company 2FC, Hatemail is a groundbreaking production, being the first production in the UK to be shot entirely on the brand new all digital 4K RED ONE camera system.
With Cinematography by veteran camera operator George Richmond (Children of Men, Quantum of Solace), and shot in the short demanding days of the English winter, Hatemail has a unique shooting style combining high-end experimental equipment with a fluid hand-held camera. George has used natural winter light to its best advantage, the autumnal locations & wintery conditions reflect the bittersweet nature of the tale.
Shot entirely on location in and around London & Kent, from the leafy suburbs of Chislehurst & Sidcup to St James' Park in Westminster, Hatemail is a very British production, employing the skills of some of the best talent the industry has to offer.
Edited by Kate Owen of Marshall Street Editors using AVID with 2K digital grade and conform by Colourist Mick Vincent & Digital Imaging Supervisor David Phillips at the Mill, Hatemail is at the forefront of digital production technology. With Sound Design and Mixing by Ben G at 750mph the film has had professional TLC in all departments.
Hatemail was recently selected by the UK Film Council to be one of 6 films included in its Completion Fund program. It will be premiered this June at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. The key creatives on the film have established a 2K workflow for using the RED camera system. From shooting, data acquisition, data management, editing, VFX production, grading, conform, to final print delivery, the Hatemail team are the first in the UK to deliver a project entirely 'shot on RED'.
